Key West part 4

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

To give an idea of the price level in Key West:
This small house is for sale for $425.000,-.

 It does have an extension....
The electricity may need some fixing...
But there's a gorgeous bouganvilla in the back...

It did put me back on the ground.

Key West Part 3

Monday, March 19, 2012

Marvellous bouganvillas blooming everywhere in Key West.
There are so many beautiful flowers,
unfortunately don't know the names of them all.
 Bouganvilla alley.
Bright blue sky and yellow flowers,
a nice combination, isn't it!
The grey of the fence gives a great contrast
to the strong pink flowers.
A bold and beautiful rooster walking free in a garden,
and not only in a garden but on the streets as well.

On the way to Key West there are so many funny
looking mail boxes.
This manatee one is on of the most popular one.

Key West Part 2

Sunday, March 18, 2012

 Lunch at Kelly's
301 Whitehead Street at Caroline Street

Came here to eat conch fritters
as heard that they do the best ones here.

Do not leave Key West without trying conch!
Conch is a shellfish,
the one where you can hear the sound of the ocean.
Key West = the Conch Republic

Big and meaty with some spices.
(the best conch fritters ever are the ones they do
at Harbour Lodge in Hope Town, Elbow Cay in the Bahamas!)

Crab cakes were not on the menu,
but got them anyway!
My favourites! Here with slices of pineapple.

House salad with green leaves, strawberries and nuts
was extremely delicious.

Got there just in time - at 1pm it was already packed.
The plastic chairs is not so nice idea,
but in laid-back Key West it doesn't really bother.

The house was formerly the first home of Pan Am Airlines.
The first round-trip ticket to Havana was sold here in 1927.
Caroline Street is nice, leafy, quiet street.

On Whitehead Street opposite Kelly's is
Harry S Truman's The Little White House.
Hemingway's home is also on Whitehead Street,
the street ends at the Southernmost Point.

Cupcake Car

 Peace, Love, Cupcake.
That's a my type of car!

Been at driving school twice,
yet not having the feeling for driving...
unfortunately!

Key West Part 1

 It's becoming a tradition!
Going to Key West on Thursday in the middle of March.

Key West has the largest collection of 19th-century
structures in the US, about 4.000 buildings.
The traditional Key West architecture is ever so charming.
 Inviting interior gallery and shop.
 Shady garden.
Look at the size of the leaves!
 Laid-back, tropical lifestyle.
The back streets of Key West are the most attractive ones.
The main street, Duval Street, is very touristic.
It's very easy to wander around the town.

Would love to have this elegant porch!
